Was he ever married before me?

Im currently married.. before i got married i had a phone call from his ex.. and she claims to be his wife at dat time.. even tho they were and have been seperated for over 2 yrs at da time.. he still neva told me... i confronted him and he denied it.... is there a way for him to LEGALLY proove that he was or wasnt married??
