Does anyone believe that life as we know it will change in 2012?

There has been many startling predictions about the year 2012. Death, destruction, overthrowing of governments, even worst to come. Will the events leading up to 2012 only get worse. If so, will the end ultimately as we know it cease by December 21, 2012?
