How can I tell if this is my spirit guide talking to me?

I tried contacting my spirit guide last night I saw a beutiful elk and I tried talking to him but I lost my focuss and lost my contact. So, I tried again tonight and I saw the same elk. I had some relaxation music on ,but it changed to techno music and I lost my contact again. So, I tried again to forest sounds aconpanied by soft music I saw the elk again and this time he layed down near me and talked to me. I got his name and I asked him what can I do to strengthen my abilities he said pray and to learn more about the abilities in question. I touched his head and I felt his warm fur and the base of his antlers. He said he had to leave and he walked back in to the forest... Is this my real spirit guide here? Or is it my mind?
