Why are we such slobs these days?

Everywhere i look i see disgusting fat people in crocs and sweatpants. Girls dress trashy in skintight leggings and in summer guys often walk around shirtless. In many stores (including the one i used to work at) the staff are lazy, scruffy and rude and the customers are even worse. What happened to basic rules of hygiene, civility and self-respect like "No shoes, no shirt, no service?"
