To accept God.......?

If Gods love is unconditional then why does he need us to accept him or to believe? Did he die with an ulterior motive of acquiring people into his religion rather than for the pure sake of love? Does this not suggest that his love is conditional if he needs acknowledgment?Why does he require fame and glory such as any human would desire? Would this suggest that and philanthropist that commits to charity and labels themselves anonymous every time is more loving than God since they have veiled themselves in obscurity and their only purpose was to help society without all the glory?
